How to Build the Perfect Charcuterie Board Spread

A charcuterie board does not need to be complicated to feel generous. Start with a beautiful surface, choose a few things you enjoy eating, and give the arrangement enough variation to invite people in.

Build in groups

  • Choose a few cheeses with different textures and strengths.
  • Add cured meat, fresh fruit, something salty, and something crunchy.
  • Use small bowls for olives, jam, or nuts so the board feels organized without becoming rigid.

Create a little height

Stand crackers upright, lean a wedge of cheese on its side, or use a small bowl to lift one element above the surface. Small changes in height make the spread feel more alive in person and in photographs.

Timing matters

Take cheese out of the refrigerator 30 to 45 minutes before serving. Build the board close to the gathering so ingredients stay fresh and the experience feels effortless.

The board itself changes the moment. A handmade piece gives the food a surface worth noticing, then earns its keep long after the guests leave.
